The spare room is where internal work on the house started. The ceiling here was the only place where there was 'substantial' damage, being a very small hole in the plaster. The existing internal walls are made of villaboard, so have very poor strength and insulation. Rather than remove the villaboard, and have the hassle and potential of damage to the ceiling when removing the wall, as well as the potential of asbestos concerns, we chose to just gyprock a layer over the existing wall below the picture rail. This added some strength and insulation. Being an old house, there's currently no storage, so we also got some built in cupboards made for this room, doing our best to make them blend with the room.
